It was a highly anticipated primary night in California last night, as numerous Democratic candidates vied for one of the top two spots in critical House races across the state. The top-two primary system means no party is guaranteed a candidate in the general election, but pending a couple of very close races, it appears that at least one Democrat will advance in every competitive district in the state. Gavin Newsom will be the Democratic candidate for Governor, and California will decide between two Democrats — incumbent Senator Dianne Feinstein and California State Senator Kevin de León — in November’s senatorial race.
Many local activists and DVC volunteers gathered at our headquarters last night for food, drinks, and early returns on the big screen. Environmental activists who phone banked for Proposition 68 from the DVC were able to celebrate the passage of this investment in conservation and water management.
