2016

2016

During the 2016 campaign, based in a Mountain View office of over 5,000 square feet, the DVC almost doubled its productivity from 2012.  For this campaign, DVC volunteers made over 500,000 predictive-dialer calls in support of Hillary Clinton’s campaign.  This time during GOTV there were regularly more than 70 volunteers at DVC computer call stations making calls for the campaign to elect Hillary Clinton President.  At one point, for a period of several hours there were as many as 90 HFA calls being made simultaneously.  And during the 5 days leading up to the election, more than 1,000 individuals came to the DVC to volunteer.  HFA reported to us that the only other office in Northern California that was as productive as the DVC was the 4-story San Francisco HFA headquarters.  2016 was the dawn of the use of new campaign technology for the DVC as well.  We also participated in an exciting new program of texting to smartphones, the HFA Megaphone project.

And we reprised our support for other Democratic offices, providing technology and infrastructure assistance and support to several other offices, from Redwood City, to Palo Alto, to San Jose.

All this effort coincided with an even more intensive local operation, with volunteers visiting over 3,200 households carrying materials for local and State candidates, and others traveling both to battleground states in support of the Clinton Campaign, and to Central Valley Congressional districts in support of Democratic candidates.

Despite our significant efforts and local successes, the 2016 was disastrous for the Party and the country.   Now, more than ever, as we prepare for the 2018 mid-term election, we will need to be even more creative and energetic as we join the fight to protect our democracy and promote values of respect, human rights and dignity, and our interdependence on one another, and on our planet.
